In the CHAINLAW project, there is a rolling call for visitors (PhD researchers, postdoctoral researchers, faculty).
Call for Applications I Visiting Fellows (postdoctoral and PhD researchers)
CHAINLAW – Responsive Law for Global Value Chains – is a five-year project running 2023-2028 that is funded as an ERC Starting Grant. The project team currently consists of four researchers, the Principal Investigator Anna Beckers, 1 postdoc and 2 PhD researchers. The core aim of CHAINLAW is to develop a novel conceptual and normative legal language for Global Value Chains (GVCs). It will do so by a combination of theoretical, doctrinal, empirical, technical, and normative analysis on the law of GVCs. Methodologically, the project works with the ideas of sociological jurisprudence, and it focuses on three categories of rules, namely formal rules, private regulation and technical systems (doctrine, documents, and data). The theoretical perspective taken is grounded in the concept of socio-legal institutions. More information on the project set-up and core activities can be found here. The project is hosted by the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University and led by Prof. Dr. Anna Beckers.
Within the context of the project, we are looking for researchers to visit the project in Maastricht and join us for a period of 1-3 months.
Applicants should have knowledge and experience in relevant fields and related theoretical underpinnings, and they should have an interest in working on global value chains. They should be able and be committed to participating actively in the activities of the project. Visitors are required to take residence in the vicinity of Maastricht for the duration of the visiting period and participate in seminars and workshops on a regular basis.
We will select candidates based on previous research experience relating to the topic or broader field of global value chains and law, academic excellence, the capacity to work as a team and the ability to conduct independent research.
Conditions for the visitorship:
Duration: 1-3 months
Visitors can be paid travel costs for a return trip from their home base to Maastricht and accommodation expenses during the visiting period.
Visitors need to be affiliated with a university outside the Netherlands and they can be in different stages of their academic careers, i.e. PhD researchers, postdoctoral researchers as well as faculty.
Visitors are expected to produce one output that is related to the project during the duration of their visiting period; this can be a (co-authored) working paper, a conference presentation or the organisation of a seminar.
Application process:
Applications are considered on a rolling basis. They should be submitted to the project’s principal investigator Prof. Dr. Anna Beckers at anna.beckers@maastrichtuniversity.nl. Applications should include the following documents:
Cover letter (including motivation to join the project and outlining the type of position that you seek within the project, i.e. visiting PhD researcher, postdoctoral researcher or visiting faculty)
Detailed CV including list of publications
A short and preliminary proposal (max 2 pages) for research to be carried out at the CHAINLAW project
Visiting PhD researchers interested in visiting the project should provide reference and support letter by their PhD supervisor.
Should you have remaining questions on this call, you may contact CHAINLAW’s PI Prof. Dr. Anna Beckers at anna.beckers@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
